Why in News?  

The ‘White Rabbit Technology’-based Indian Standard Time (IST) Distribution Demonstration Network was inaugurated by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi in Bengaluru, under the ‘One Nation, One Time’ initiative.

  • Inauguration: The IST Distribution Demonstration Network based on White Rabbit Technology was inaugurated by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi
    • The demonstration network was launched at the Regional Reference Standards Laboratory (RRSL), Jakkur, Bengaluru, Karnataka
  • Objective: To establish a uniform, highly precise, and secure Indian Standard Time (IST) distribution system across the country under the ‘One Nation, One Time’ initiative. 
  • Applications: It will provide highly accurate time synchronisation for banking, stock exchanges, digital payments, telecommunications, defence systems, and national power grids. 
    • The Legal Metrology Division of the Ministry of Consumer Affairs is the nodal agency for the project. 
  • Collaborating Institutions: The project has been developed with the support of the National Physical Laboratory (NPL)ISROBSNL, and SEBI
  • Global Standard: The system operates in compliance with Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) protocols while ensuring an indigenous and secure time distribution framework.
